All about the BURTON brand
Burton is an American snowboard manufacturer whose history dates back to 1977. At that time, Jake Burton launched the Backhil, a narrow snowboard with a single strap binding and a rope attached to the tip of the board for the rider to hold onto while riding. Two years later, Burton offered the ability to adjust the bindings without tools. In 1981, the snowboards are expanded and given a urethane slide for higher speed. The next year, Burton begins exporting its products to Japan. In 1983, the brand introduces its first snowboard boots and bindings with heel strap.
An important year in the history of the brand and snowboarding as a whole is 1985, when Burton starts producing boards with a composite core and biaxial fiberglass braid, comes up with the first buckle bindings, and most importantly, begins to make inroads from Europe when it opens an office in Austria.
Snowboarding is becoming a global phenomenon, and although the Burton brand keeps pushing it forward with more and more technological innovations, it remains above all "the greatest fun you've ever had on snow", as Jake Burton said back in 1978.
