The brand's products represent an alternative to disposable plastic and paper cups and bottles, which are often made from materials that are harmful to health and, as waste, are a major burden on the environment.
The history of Klean Kanteen products dates back to 2002, when inventor and founder of the Klean Kanteen brand, Robert Seals, created the first prototype from materials he purchased at a local store in Chico, California. In 2004, he introduced the first stainless steel Klean Kanteen bottle, which we know from the brand's current range. It was the first alternative to the plastic or aluminium containers used by the masses at the time that was safe, healthy, lightweight and reusable. In the early years, Klean Kenteen products were mainly used during music festivals, environmental trade fairs, outdoor events and so on.
In 2005, the brand was taken over by the Creswell family, who built on Steals' vision and significantly expanded the stainless steel product portfolio. At the same time, the company began working to reduce its environmental footprint, becoming a member of the 1% for the Planet initiative in 2008 and since then has given at least 1% of its annual sales to non-profit organizations that work to preserve a healthy environment.
In 2012, Klean Kanteen met the standards for entry into the Certified B Corporations in the areas of conduct, accountability and transparency and, along with its partners, has since worked to educate the public on health and environmental issues.
