How to choose a children's desk and chair
Do you have a preschooler or children already in school? And do your children draw and write at the desk correctly? Do they arch their backs? And do they have enough space, light and storage for their small pictures and large projects on the desk? Parents, give your kids a cool workspace and see the results!
Correct table height
Did you know that sitting at a traditional table is not good for young children? For smaller children, a high table does not allow them to sit properly. The child's feet must touch the floor with their entire surface and the legs should be at a ninety-degree angle at the knees. Approximately the same right angle should be made in the child's elbows when sitting, and his forearms should be resting on the table top. The child should not slouch, and should sit upright for a healthy straight back.

Therefore, an adjustable height desk is ideal, which can grow perfectly with your child. The handy desks from Danish brand FLEXA are height-adjustable from 50 to 83 cm, which suits children from the age of five until they reach adulthood.

Adjustable plate inclination
In addition to the height of the table, it's nice for kids if the slope of the board can be easily adjusted to what they're doing. Ten to fifteen degrees is a good inclination for traditional writing, and twenty-five to thirty for learning. Again, by adjusting the slope of the desk, we are promoting good posture and children will not develop bad sitting habits. And when children get tired of sitting or just want to stretch their legs, the inclination of up to thirty-five degrees means they can easily use the desk while standing.
Working area size
From the start of choosing a desk, think about the fact that your child should be comfortable drawing or writing without throwing things off the desk awkwardly with his or her elbow. Keep in mind that children have and need their school pencil cases, paint palettes, notebooks or textbooks within reach. Therefore, the minimum dimensions of a school desk should be 120 cm in width and 60 cm in depth.
Storage spaces
It's also a smart idea to provide plenty of storage space for children. Whether it's drawers next to or under the desk or shelves on the wall. There are also clear organisers on the market that can be used to retrofit children's desks. Children can put crayons, pencils, rulers and lucky charms in it.

Table material
The widest range of children's work tables is made of pine and spruce. If you decide to invest in a nicer solid wood, please note the wide selection of accessories that will protect your desk from possible stains from ink pens, markers or glue. In our range, we recommend the desk pad from the Dutch brand Eeveve, which will not only serve you in style, but thanks to its many colour variations and disigns, it will more than charmingly match the interior of your child's room. However, if you want to choose a children's desk that is less demanding in terms of care and maintenance, reach for products made of lacquered wood veneer or with an MDF top.
Light
Sufficient natural daylight is not only important for our children's reading and writing. Therefore, place your child's desk near a window in the room. Whether your daughter or son is right- or left-handed, the light must come from the opposite side to where your child writes. And for a sense of calm and security, it's also great if your child has a view of the room from the desk as well as a view of the door. But if the size or layout of the room doesn't allow you to do this, you still shouldn't resign yourself to proper lighting in particular. A lamp is always a basic necessity on a desk.

Chair as a rescue
In case you have a desk at home that doesn't have an adjustable height or a reclining table top, but you still insist on it, a good solution is to choose a reclining chair for your child. With this, you can adjust its height, backrest and armrests properly. The rules of healthy sitting also apply here, and the armrest should also provide suitable stability for children. Generally, swivel chairs are preferable, as the wheels make it very easy for children to slide in and out of the table.
The above ergonomic parameters are fulfilled by both FLEXA chairs. Nevertheless, with children, do not forget that when sitting for longer periods of time it is healthy to get up occasionally and take a walk, stretch and move around to get the blood flowing and improve concentration. So cheers to that!

Workstation under the bed
If you're struggling with lack of space at home, consider putting a work desk under your kids' bunk bed. This way, you can accumulate at least two functions in the same square footage - sleeping and study space, and possibly storage.
